John Bates of Due North Gallery
John Bates is a professional digital photographer specializing in classic car, fashion, special event, and nature digital photography .John's interest in photography began in the 70's and led him to enroll in a special program at Texas A&M University majoring in Wildlife Photography, with a minor in Wilderness Survival. His education was put on hold to serve in the U.S. Air Force and raise a family, but now that his children are grown his passion for photography has been renewed. After a 30 year hiatus, John is once again behind the lens, with a slew of commercial credits under his business name - Due North Gallery. As a long-time resident of Ferndale, Michigan, he has watched the Woodward Dream Cruise grow in the last ten years from a regional car show to an international event. Don't be surprised if you see him "playing in traffic" on Woodward Avenue during the event - he'll do whatever it takes to bring you his unique perspective.

John is a member of the elite Canon Professional Services (CPS) group, the National Association of Photoshop Users (NAPP), the National Association of Nature Photographers (NANPA), Profotos, and his stock photography is handled by Wish-Stock.com under the Due North Gallery name.

"My photographic style is semi-journalistic in nature. At a big event such as the Woodward Dream Cruise, I'm always looking for a different angle, a different perspective, which is why you might see me lying on my belly along the curb, shooting from a moving vehicle, or up on some scaffolding to shoot down on a scene. I try to capture the best "cruising" images possible by moving around a lot and watching the people. This one event is like no other in the world, and Dream Cruise Photos is THE place to go for the very best photos of the greatest car event in the world !
